SUMMARY:Venture School Launch Day Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Fall 2020 cohort of the North Iowa Venture School will compete in the Venture School Launch Day Competition Thursday\, November 19th. Each team will present their pitch to a panel of judges\, followed by a Q&A. Up to $5\,000 in prizes will be awarded. The event will be held via Zoom and in-person at the Muse-Norris Conference Center at NIACC with social distancing and masks required. \n12 teams are participating in the North Iowa Venture School this fall. Venture School is a premier statewide program for entrepreneurial training and is built on curriculum developed by the National Science Foundation I-Corps. The Venture School teams will also be eligible to compete for cash awards at the state level at the 2021 EntreFEST Venture School Launch Day Competition. Last year’s North Iowa graduates were awarded $13\,000 in prize money during the 2020 EntreFEST pitch competition. DESCRIPTION:The NIACC Entrepreneur Organization (NEO) is NIACC’s chapter of the National organization\, Collegiate Entrepreneur’s Organization (CEO)\, founded in 1983 and supports more than 16\,500 emerging collegiate entrepreneurs annually. We believe that any student\, regardless of academic discipline can launch a business. \n  \nRequest Meeting Information\n  \nNEO’s mission is to assist student entrepreneurs in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to create and operate a successful new business venture\, while providing value to the campus and the community. Membership is available to all students\, regardless of their major. NEO meets two to three times a month\, usually on Wednesdays at 4:00. Currently\, the club is meeting via zoom. Advisors are Daniel Mulligan\, Business Instructor and Kelley O’Rourke\, Student Entrepreneur Coordinator in the Pappajohn Center. \nWho should join NEO? Williams\, Proprietor of Culinary Business Strategy\, is a chef and food business consultant who uses broad and deep industry knowledge and an unbound intuitive curiosity to her clients with their projects to realize the next level of business opportunity and success. Deagon completed culinary school at La Varenne in Paris followed by an intensive apprenticeship program all while eating her way through the streets of Paris and the European continent. Deagon was part of the first wave of American women to work their way up the kitchen ladder in high-end kitchens. She began honing her management skills and style beyond her culinary education as the Executive Chef at the Heritage House on the Mendocino Coast at the age of 24. She later rounded out her culinary education with a BA in Sociology and an MBA with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. \nShe brings 20+ years of experience as an Executive Chef\, event planner\, business owner\, business development specialist\, mentor and consultant to Culinary Business Strategy as well as counsel with SBDC clients.
