NIACC Pappajohn Center Establishes Venture Launch Lab
New entrepreneurial incubator program helps North Iowa business owners build and grow a sustainable business venture
The NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center recently launched Venture Launch Lab (VLL), a new entrepreneurial incubator program designed to help aspiring and early-stage business owners build the knowledge, systems, and confidence needed to successfully launch and grow a sustainable business.
Venture Launch Lab was developed through funding provided by a USDA Rural Business Development Grant (RBDG) and was created to fill a critical gap in entrepreneurial programming across North Iowa. While many entrepreneurs receive assistance validating a business idea or developing a business concept, Venture Launch Lab focuses on helping business owners build the operational foundation necessary to successfully launch, manage, and grow their ventures.
The comprehensive, hands-on program guides participants through seven core pillars essential to building a strong business foundation: Legal Foundations, Operations, Human Resources and Leadership, Marketing Strategy, Financial and Tax Essentials, Strategy and Growth, and Funding. Through expert-led instruction, practical tools, guided implementation, and real-world application, participants make meaningful progress on their businesses while gaining the structure and support needed to move forward with confidence.
"Venture Launch Lab was intentionally designed to bridge the gap between business planning and business execution," said Dr. Candi Karsjens, Executive Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at NIACC. "Entrepreneurs need more than an idea to succeed. They need strong systems, sound financial practices, effective marketing strategies, and a clear roadmap for growth. This program helps them build that foundation."
The first cohort brought together 11 businesses and 14 entrepreneurs from across North Iowa who are committed to building sustainable businesses that contribute to the economic vitality of their communities. Upon completion of the program, participants leave with stronger operational systems, improved decision-making confidence, a defined growth strategy, and a customized roadmap for future success.
